Imagining Heaven

thoughts about heaven & eternity

#footsteps

On days like today, with a light snowfall, it is easy to see that we are not always walking down the path by ourselves. As you walk along you can see footprints from others, some going the same way… others a different direction. You can see that some stay on the path and others veer off. As I am imagining Heaven this morning, I wonder about all of those footprints. In everyday life, I don’t always recognize the path of others, but maybe that is because I am not looking. It makes me wonder if they do pay attention and see my path, if so are they seeing a path that leads to Jesus? Time to pause and remember that even if no one else notices our path, our Master does. When that day finally comes and we stand in front of Him face to face, will he express satisfaction with the path we followed today?

#tissues

Just imagining Heaven this morning. Do you suppose we will have Kleenexes in Heaven? I believe the need for a tissue, because of a runny nose, should be forever left behind on this earth. Apostle John tells us in Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” So the need for a tissue because of saddness is completely removed! But alas, my mind wonders, what about tears of Joy. Will we need a tissue to wipe our eyes because of the overwhelming joyfulness we will surely encounter when bowing at the throne of our God of grace and mercy and forgiveness.

1 Corinthians 15:50-53

What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever.

But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
1 Corinthians 15:50-53

#primping

Just imagining Heaven this morning. Do you suppose there will be mirrors in Heaven? Will we have a need to primp ourselves so we look just so so. Will we still want to see ourselves the way others see us or will we be more heart focused. Phillipians 3:21 states that “He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own”. Somehow I just never envisioned Jesus checking his, or our, outward appearance. I believe He is much more interested in the content of the heart. Eagerly waiting the return of our Savior and the first moment of seeing all the saints in their glorious perfect bodies, unprimped!

#hobbies

Just imagining Heaven this morning. Do you suppose there will be hobbies in Heaven? Will we garden, go biking, do wood working, make quilts or crochet? Will we want things to occupy our “time”. Will we meet in groups to drink coffee, discuss events of the day? What WILL occupy our Heavenly lives? Will we be floating on a cloud, strumming the harp? I have no comprehension of what Heaven holds beyond a sincere thankfulness to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe for His grace and mercy. Holy, Holy, Holy.. Jesus is worthy of our praise. Why wait for Heaven, isn’t He worthy of our praise now?

#name

Just imagining Heaven this morning. Do you suppose we will receive a new name in Heaven? Many people believe we will, based on Revelation 2:17 & Isaiah 62:2. Others believe those verses have other meaning. Jesus says in John 10:14: “I know My own and My own know Me”. I believe regardless of the name issue, Jesus indeed knows His own people and will recognize them without fail when standing before the Mercy seat. No matter what our personal identity is in Heaven… because of Jesus and His sacrifice, if we trust in Him we will be known eternally as a child of the one true King! Praying you share that identity.

#age

Just imagining Heaven this morning. What age do you suppose you will be in Heaven? Will those arriving in Heaven be the same age as when they departed their earthly bodies? Will adults still be adults and children be children for eternity? Will senior citizen’s bodies be transformed back to an earlier age or children aged to an adult stage? Will we revert to our age on earth when we first became a child of God? Will children be able to “grow up” on the new earth? As usual, I have only questions and no answers. This I do believe, that at the right hand of our Heavenly Father sits the one who died to be my Savior. Whatever answer we discover when arriving, we can trust the details are worked out and we will be eternally happy with our age, body and eternal Home.
